A Point-of-Service (POS) plan offers you important health care coverage choices and options. You choose a doctor who participates in the CIGNA HealthCare network, your primary care physician (PCP), to coordinate your care. When you need care, see your PCP first and keep your out-of-pocket costs at their lowest and your coverage levels at their highest – with no need to file claim forms. Your PCP can provide referrals to network specialists (you can go directly to your OB/GYN without a referral) and will obtain authorizations for hospital admissions, lab or x-ray services or outpatient procedures at participating facilities. With POS, you have the option of going to participating doctors without first getting a referral from your PCP, or you can go to doctors and facilities that are not in the CIGNA HealthCare network. Your costs will be higher, but you can go to any doctor or facility and receive reimbursement for covered services, minus any deductibles and coinsurance.

If you participate in a POS Open Access plan, you can go directly to participating specialty physicians without a referral from your PCP and still receive the highest level of benefits.
